View from Croatia : Auschwitz meeting
Accompanied by professors Blagajac, Dervoz, Đordić, and Kurelić, 42 second and third-year students were in Poland from March 15 to 18 as part of the European project NESHAMA, led by the Memorial de la Shoah from Paris.
After the project participants from France, Greece, Croatia, Germany, and Poland gathered in January for training in Paris, the meeting in Poland took place.
Upon arrival, the students participated in icebreaker activities, followed by two days of educational activities and a guided tour of the Auschwitz-Birkenau Memorial and Museum. During the visit, the students further deepened their knowledge of the Holocaust and expanded their understanding of history, while simultaneously developing empathy and an awareness of the importance of tolerance and the fight against all forms of discrimination. On the final day, a commemoration was held in which student Luka Matulović and student Bruna Blaić from 3. A participated, lighting candles on behalf of the Croatian delegation for the victims of the concentration camp, while student Lucija Regina Borić from 2. E participated in the wreath-laying ceremony.
Before returning to Zagreb, the professors, in cooperation with the Ministry, arranged a visit to Krakow for the students outside the official project program.
The official Croatian partners in the NESHAMA project are the Ministry of Science, Education and Youth and JUSP Jasenovac. Mrs. Snježana Šincek from the Ministry is the national project coordinator, and Professor Margareta Đordić is the school coordinator.
