Polish ambassador : Workshops - May 3 2025
During this meeting, two workshops were conducted for the participants. The first, The Fate of Children at Auschwitz-Birkenau State Museum, focused on highlighting the different experiences of children compared to adult prisoners in concentration camps.
Working in groups, participants developed a small exhibition using a range of historical sources, including archival photographs, documents, excerpts from survivors’ testimonies, and works of art. This activity helped them strengthen their ability to construct historical narratives based on primary and secondary sources. The workshop concluded with group presentations followed by a curator-guided tour of the exhibitions created by the participants.
The second workshop, The Eleventh Commandment: “Thou Shalt Not Be Indifferent”, was inspired by remarks made by Marian Turski during the 75th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz, referencing fellow survivor Roman Kent. The session encouraged participants to reflect on the ethical lessons of Auschwitz and to consider how historical experiences can be connected to contemporary issues such as human rights and social inequality. Using Auschwitz as a starting point, the workshop aimed to foster critical reflection and to help participants draw conclusions relevant to today’s world, particularly in relation to the dangers of indifference.
In addition, the group was divided into three smaller teams, each of which visited one of the museum’s departments: the Collections, the Conservation Laboratories, and the Archives, where they were presented with copies of original documents in a seminar setting.
