First online testimony - Iossif Ventoura - September 26 2025
The first testimony session brought together Young Holocaust Ambassadors, teachers, remembrance professionals and NESHAMA partners to hear the testimony of Iossif Ventoura, a Greek Jewish survivor of the Holocaust.
Born in Chania, Crete, he recounted his childhood, the Nazi occupation and the persecution of Greek Jews.
Forced into hiding, he survived as a hidden child after being separated from his family, thanks to the support of Christian friends who helped protect them. His testimony also highlighted the rich and vibrant Jewish community that existed in Greece before the Second World War.
The session concluded with a Q&A, allowing participants to engage directly with the witness and deepen their understanding of the human experience behind the historical events.
