David Laszlo Mandel, born November 3, 1928 in Somoskorod (Hungarian: Somoskőújfalu) in Hungary
In April 1944, David Laszlo Mandel was deported to the Auschwitz concentration camp and, after a few weeks, transferred to the Fünfteichen subcamp (Hungarian: Miłoszyce) (a subcamp of the Gross-Rosen concentration camp). From there, he was taken on a death march to the Gross-Rosen concentration camp, where he had already been registered with the prisoner number 42787.
On January 9 or 10, 1945, David Laszlo Mandel was transferred from the Gross-Rosen concentration camp to the Buchenwald concentration camp as part of the evacuation transport. In Buchenwald, he was registered with the prisoner number 127816. Initially housed in Barrack 63, he was later transferred to Barrack 66. On April 11, 1945, David Laszlo Mandel was liberated from Buchenwald.
On June 5, 1945, he left Buchenwald for France (Écouis). From there, he briefly returned home and then went to the Leipheim DP camp (Bavaria). There, he met American soldiers and worked for four years for the American military (UNRRA) in the nearby town of Günzburg. From there, he left Europe for Israel in 1949.
