Testimony - Darko FISCHER (CROATIA)
Born on January 2, 1938, in Osijek to a secular Jewish family. Survived the Holocaust in exile and hiding in Bosnia and Hungary. Completed primary and secondary school – gymnasium – in Osijek. Graduated, received his master's and doctoral degrees from the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (formerly the Faculty of Electrical Engineering) in Zagreb in the field of electronics and computer science. Worked in Osijek at the Saponia Chemical Plant and at the Faculty of Economics and Electrical Engineering. Retired in 2003 with the title of associate professor.
Jewish activist since his student days. President of the Jewish Community of Osijek from 1988 to 2004. Editor of several historical books about the Jews in Osijek and Vinkovci. Winner of the Jewish awards "Megilla – Thank you note". Published a book of short stories on Jewish topics "Sketches from the Emigration". Frequent participant and lecturer at various Jewish conferences. President of the Jewish non-governmental organization B'nai B'rith in Zagreb 2015-2019. He was also the initiator and editor of the magazine "Glasnik/Herald", which is published in web format by the B'nai B'rith lodge from Zagreb. Lives in Zagreb since 2010.
